Hunter Leon punched in a goal in the second overtime and the Cloquet-Esko-Carlton boys soccer team

picked up an impressive early season victory over Superior on Monday afternoon by a 3-2 score.

The Lumberjacks fell behind in the 23rd minute when Dave Dalbec scored for the Spartans, however just five minutes later CEC evened the game at 1-1 when Austin Cossalter scored on an assist from John Scheuer. The Jacks took a 2-1 lead in the 38th minute when Weston Michaud found the back of the net on an assist from Landon Straub and that’s how things stood at halftime.

Ethan Walpole, of Superior, scored the only goal of the second half for either team and regulation ended with a 2-2 tie.

Neither team managed a goal in the first overtime, but in the second overtime it was Leon taking a feed from Derek Longseth as the Jacks took the lead at the 87th minute mark.

Jarad Weeks made three saves for the Jacks and Taylor Olson picked up five saves for the Spartans.
