CEC Tennis Opens Season With A Victory

The Cloquet-Esko-Carlton girls tennis team showed they could be an improved group over last year with an early season 6-1 win over the Superior Senior Spartans on Tuesday night in Superior.

CEC swept doubles play and took 3-of-4 matches in singles play. Kelsey Collier led things off at #1 singles with an impressive 6-1, 6-1 win over Superior’s Natalie Burger. Savanna Ellena kept things going for CEC at #2 singles with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Raya Kosey and Reilly Kedrowski also won at #4 singles by beating Christine Johnstad 6-4 and 6-0. CEC’s only loss in singles was a tough and hard-fought loss at #3 by MIchaela Houser to Jillisa Gallinda 7-5, 4-6, 10-8 in a tie-breaker set.

Lizz Jezierski and Seph Campbell, of CEC, help set the tone in doubles by winning at the #1 position 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 over Sara Baker and Cece Peterson. Asha Fritsinger and Kalie Shevich followed with a win at #2 doubles by beating Keely McCall and Jenny Ostrowski 6-2, 6-3 and at #3 doubles the CEC team of Alyssa Acheson and Breanne Baker downed Kaily Phillips and Jessica Engstrom 6-0, 6-4.
