The South Ridge Panthers and Ely Timberwolves squared off on Wednesday night in Hibbing. The Panthers and Timberwolves would find themselves in a battle but it would be South Ridge who came out on top, 63-53, to end Ely’s 24 game winning streak.

The Timberwolves held the advantage over the Panthers at the half, leading 34-25 but the Panthers clawed their way back, outscoring the Timberwolves 38-19 to secure their spot in the Section 7A championship.

The Panthers were led by Dominic Janke who notched a game high 20 points including hitting 4 from deep. Following Janke was Kody Karpinnen who notch all 16 points in the 2nd half. Also in the win was Colton Peterson with 15 points, Bill Redding with 11, and Drew Janke topping it off with 3.

The Timberwolves were led by Sean Jordan and Matt Vanderbeek who both notched 15 points. Max Heiman tallied 12 points in the loss.

The Timberwolves end their season with a 27-2 record but fell short of their goal. The Panthers win their 16th straight game and improve to 23-3. They will take on a tough Fond du Lac Ogichida (23-3) team who is searching for their 10th straight win. The game will be held at Duluth Denfeld on March 7th with a 7:00 PM tipoff.
