Lady Jacks fall in Season Finale

The Cloquet Lady Lumberjacks closed their regular season out with a section match-up against the Wildcats of Chisago Lakes and it was the Wildcats coming away with the ten point 70-60 win.

Bryanna Fernstrom scored 37 points Tuesday night to lead the Wildcats to the sectional win and the top seed in the section 7AAA playoffs. Fernstrom and the Wildcats built a six point 42-36 lead at that break in a high scoring first half.

The second half saw the Wildcats out score the Lumberjacks by four more points to come away with the ten point victory.

Anna Fossen scored a game high 23 points for the Lumberjacks, Kassidy Steen followed that up with 13 points, Grace Sinisalo and Kaylee McMillen each chipped in with 12 points.

Cloquet also connected on ten 3-pointers, including four each from both McMillen and Fossen to lead the way. Sinisalo added the other two 3-pointers in the loss.

Carmen Backes score 18 points to follow up Fernstrom’s 37, Sarah Green added 7 and it was Danielle Berg and Marissa Kari who closed out the scoring with 4 points each in the win at Cloquet High School.

The Wildcats finish the season 19-6 and they will host Hibbing in the opening round of the section 7AAA girls basketball playoffs.

The Lumberjack’s close out the regular season 14-11 and they will host the Hermantown Hawks in the opening round of the section 7AAA playoffs Friday night at Cloquet High School.
