Two local basketball teams had a productive summer by participating at the Pacesetter Sweet Sixteen girls basketball state tournament held last weekend in St. Joseph, Minnesota.

Barnum lost in the consolation championship game to New London-Spicer 53-45. The Bombers opened the tournament with a 66-54 loss to one of the largest schools in the state Hopkins, but Barnum rebounded to then defeat Worthington 65-19 and Sebeka 48-32 to reach the consolation championship.

Meanwhile Esko had a tough draw and lost to Bloomington Kennedy in their opening game and then had successive losses to Goodhue, Hawley and Worthington.

The championship was won by Eden Prairie in a tightly played affair against Hopkins.
