CLOQUET – The Cloquet-Esko-Carlton girls hockey program has had a great history of churning out great players, but none of those players have gone on to play for the USA Women’s National Under 22 select team. That is until this past week when it was announced that 2008 Cloquet graduate Montana Vichorek was named to the team in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Players announced on the team will participate in both the 2010 USA Hockey Women’s National Festival and the 2010 Under-22 Series.

Among the highlights on the roster for Team USA are three members of the silver medal-winning 2010 USA Olympic women’s ice hockey team, including Hilary Knight, Jocelyne Lamoureux and Monique Lamoureux. Those three are among a group of seven members of this year’s team who have previously played in an Under-22 Series.

Six players will make their debuts with Team USA and included in that group is Vichorek, who is currently playing college hockey at Bemidji State University.

Vichorek joins 7 other defensemen on the team as well as five other Minnesotans on the roster.

As a member of the CEC girls hockey program, Vichorek was an All-State player and played in numerous state tournaments.

Vichorek is the daughter of Mark and Betty Vichorek of Moose Lake. Vichorek’s father played collegiately at Lake Superior State as well as professionally for nearly a decade.
