Carlson Leads Bombers to Victory

The Barnum Bombers opened sectional play Wednesday night with a 78-42 victory at Barnum High school as the Bombers move into the section 7AA quarterfinals.

Zac Carlson used a first half surge as the Bombers knocked off the Tigers. Rush City was double and triple teaming Brandon Newman and Newman frequently found Carlson open as he drove to the basket finishing strong with lay-ups and several times drawing a personal foul as well.

Carlson finished 7-11 from the field connected on three free throws as he finished with 18 points on the night. The Bombers used a stifling defense to shut down the Tigers, following a slow start to the game the Bombers took control of the game building a twenty point 43-23 lead at halftime.

It was a 30-13 run to close out the last seven minutes of the first half and a 21-10 run to start the second half which sealed the victory. Following Carlson, it was Brandon Newman who finished with 15 points, Mitchell Weller added 12 and it was Nate Jelinick who finished with 11.

The Tigers were led by Brandon Koehnel who scored 13 and Dylan Fessenden added 8 in the loss.

The Bombers improve to 24-2 on the season and they move on to face Moose lake-Willow River Saturday afternoon at 1:00 pm at UMD.
