Northland Softball Brings Home Two Runners-Up Trophies

The Northland captured a pair of second place finishes in the Minnesota State Softball Tournament on Friday in Mankato. The Bombers fell to New Life Academy 2-1 while Hermantown was narrowly defeated by Park Center by a score of 2-1.

An early two run home run by New Life Academy’s pitcher Rebekah Schmidt was the differance in the game with New Life going on to defeat Barnum at the 2-0 margin.

In the 7AA championship game, the defending state champion Hawks rallied to tie the game at one run apiece in the top of the sixth inning on a run by Julia Gilbert. Park Center responded however scoring a second run in the bottom of the sixth and hung on for the 2-1 victory.
