MANKATO- It seems as if state championship games are starting to become commonplace for the Barnum Bombers. Barnum won two games Thursday to advance to the Class A state championship game against New Life Academy Friday afternoon.

Katrina Newman threw a one hitter as Barnum defeated the Greyhounds of New Ulm Cathedral in the state quarterfinals by a 7-0 mark. Newman also threw a no-hitter in assisting the Bombers to a 4-0 win over Menahga in the semi-finals to make it to the state championship game. She now has nine no hitters on the season and five in the playoffs.

The Bombers jumped out on New Ulm in the first game when, with the bases loaded, a clearing triple from Katie Myhre provided all the runs they would need to cruise to their seven run win. Barnum added three more runs in the bottom of the second and one in the fifth inning to move into the semi-finals.

Jenna Shanda had two hits in the Barnum win, and Myhre finished with four runs batted in. Jess Newman, Alaine Hanek-Siltanen, Claire Rodgers, and Courtney Hunter all had hits for Barnum.

Katrina Newman gave up one lone hit and struck out fourteen in the win. Newman added nine more strike outs in the semi-finals as the Bombers complete their second shutout of the tournament to beat the Braves 4-0 and move into the state championship game.

Barnum scored three runs in the first inning and three in the second to put them in front for good to and give them the four-run victory. Four singles in the second by Myhre, Shanda, Rodgers, and Paige Rilea produced the three runs and the early 3-0 lead. Katrina Newman singled in the fifth inning and scored on a RBI single from Katie Myhre.

Paige Rilea finished with three hits in the Bombers victory. Myhre add two hits, with Karianna Duesler and Emily Tompsen adding the other Barnum hits.

Barnum improves to 25-2 and will face the Eagle’s of New Life. These two schools are common opponents, having faced each other in basketball over the past three seasons.
