McGregor Shoots By Floodwood

The McGregor Mercuries shot past the Floodwood Polar Bears Tuesday night in a girls Polar League match up. The Mercuries topped the Polar Bears by a score of 73-55.

The halftime score was 39-26 in favor of the Mercuries. The Polar Bears would try to fight back but wouldn’t be able to accomplish as McGregor outscored them 34-29 in the second half to secure the Polar League victory.

Leading the Mercuries in the win was Abby Hawkinson with a game high 21 points. Korinna Mickelson added 13, Kendra Mickelson notched 12, and Danelle Demenge also had double digits with 11. Also scoring for the Mercuries was Amy Gelhar with 8, and Stacia Staska and Gretchen Grams topping it off with 4 a piece.

In the loss for the Polar Bears, Stacey Larva had a team high 14 points. Also scoring was Megan Aho with 11, Sydney Lough and Emily Hall notching 9, Mary Rohde tallying 5, Mikayla Koivisto pitching in 4, and Sara Scharnberg topping it off with 3 points.

The Mercuries improve to 18-4 on the season and will play the Barnum Bombers (14-6) on February 20th. The Polar Bears drop to 12-10 on the year and will look to bounce back against the Cook County Vikings (5-11) on February 21st.
