Lady Rails win Tight Battle with Denfeld

The Proctor Rails girls’ basketball team held a seven point lead at halftime and held on as the Hunters comeback was not enough Tuesday night as the Rails came away with a 59-57 victory.

These two teams battling in this Lake Superior Conference contest saw the Rails win their conference game of the season and the win also snapped a four game losing streak for the Rails.

Lexie DeWall led the Rails with 26 points Tuesday night including two three-pointers, Brianna Westendorf added 18, Bridget Tesser chipped in with 9, Krista Mottonen finished with 3, Kyla Merrill ended with 2 and it was Lindsey Ziells closing the Rail scoring with 1 point.

The Hunters Lexi Hill finished with 22 points on the night, Ashley Taipale had 20 points and she also nailed five three-pointers in the loss. Ciarra Taipale scored 9 points, Maddy White, Keara Ballavance, and Gabby Nordman all had 2 points for the Hunters.

The Rails improve to 7-15 and they will host the Ashland Oredockers in a Lake Superior Conference match up on Saturday night at Proctor High School.

The Hunters fall to 8-13 on the season and 2-5 in conference play. The Hunters will host the same Oredockers on Thursday night.
