Lady Bombers Hang on to Knock off Rebels

The Barnum Bombers survived a late second half comeback to come away with a one point 52-51 win Tuesday night at Willow River High School in a Polar League Conference and a sectional match-up.

Ava Szczyrbak’s shot at the buzzer fell short as the Bombers hung on for the one point victory. The Bombers who led by as many as 22 early in the second half only to to see that lead fade away as the Rebels fought their way back.

The Rebels who started fast Tuesday night opened up an early 11 point lead at 13-2 only to see the Bombers Head Coach Katie Moench call time out to get the Bombers regrouped as they stormed back and took a half time lead at 32-23.

Daron Mainville led the way as the Bombers rolled through the end of the first half and into the second half as she pounded in 27 points on the night most coming down low in the post.

Following Mainville the Bombers were led by Emily Miletitch who had 9 points all coming on three-point baskets, Jaelyn Bushey and Cheyanne Johnson each add 6 points, and Megan Nelson finished with 4.

Adri Jusczak was the Rebels top scorer as she ended with 17 points Kayla Radel added 10, Ava Szczyrbak chipped in with 9 points, Scarlett Anderson had 4, Hayley Johnson added 3, and it was Dana Olson and Ally Bodie each finishing with 2 points.

The Bombers improve to 14-6 on the season and they will play at home Thursday night when they will host the Two Harbors Agates in a Polar League Conference game.

The Rebels fall to 14-5 and they will take on the Carlton Bulldogs Thursday night at Willow River High School in a conference match-up.
