Jacks Continue Winning Ways At Wood Bat Classic

The Cloquet Lumberjacks kicked things off with a 5-2 win over Thief River Falls in the opening game of the Mike Bugliosi Wood Bat Classic in Hibbing on Friday.


Cloquet scored first in the bottom of the third when Joey Singpiel leadoff with a single, and Jake Horn followed with a base hit bunt. Kyle Becker then walked, Peter LaCourse hit a 2-run single and Connor Stowell had a base hit bunt. Then, with 2 outs, Corbin Morse came up with a 2-run single.


The score stayed 4-0 until the fifth inning when Stowell led off with a single. With 2 outs, he stole second, went to third on a wild pick-off attempt, and scored on a ground ball by Morse.


Thomas Rogers had a no-hitter through 6 innings before a single and home run in the 7th brought Thief River Falls within 5-2. Rogers finished with a 2-hitter, while recording eight strikeouts.


With the win, Cloquet Improves to 12-3 on the season and will compete in the second day of the Classic on Saturday.
