Cloquet senior Ben Shultz has signed a letter of intent to attend and play basketball for Mount Marty College in Yankton, South Dakota. Ben signed his letter of intent over this past weekend and will be playing for the Lancers next season.

Mount Marty College is a private, Catholic, Benedictine co-educational liberal arts college. Primary emphasis is placed on the development of each person as a complete human being with intellectual, professional, and personal skills and a composite of moral, spiritual, and social values.

Mount Marty College enrolls over 1100 students of all faiths. Students come from 25 states and 5 foreign countries. Classes are taught by professors, not graduate students. The small student-faculty ratio fosters personalized learning, where teaching is the highest priority.

Shultz’s former head basketball coach told Northland sports online, “Anytime one of your players gets a chance at the next level, it’s a big deal. Ben works his tail off and was a great kid to have around – he played some very important minutes for us this year. I hope things go well for him.”

Ben helped the Lumberjacks reach the section finals against Grand Rapids. Shultz, a role player for the Lumberjacks finished third on the team in blocked shots. Ben shot 65 % from the free throw line and 45 % from the floor.

Shultz will be playing for longtime head coach Jim Thorson, who just completed his 14th year as the boys head basketball coach. Mount Marty is a NAIA division 2 college. The Lancers play in the Great Plains Athletic Conference.
