MOOSE
LAKE – The Moose Lake-Willow River Rebels boys baseball team jumped out of the gate fast with a huge 19-2 win over the Mariners Thursday afternoon. The five inning game gave the Rebels a good start in opening the 2010 season at home.

The Rebels used three big innings to run away with the Polar League win. The Rebels pounded out 5 runs in the first inning, with the runs coming on 3 Rebel hits and one Silver Bay error. The Rebels added 5 more runs in the bottom of the second, those coming from three more hits and three walks in the inning.

It would be a huge nine run third inning that ensured a Rebel win. Six hits, three Silver Bay errors and two batters hit by a pitch all led to the big nine-run inning for the Rebels. The Mariner scored their only two runs in the first inning off of two hits and a walk.

Hayden Hoffman led the Rebels with three hits and two runs batted in. Ryan Adamczak added two hits and four runs batted in. Trevor Nummela added two hits, a walk, and drove in three runs in the win.

Rudy Ketchum picked up the win for the Rebels by pitching three innings, giving up 2 runs and 2 hits. Michael Unzen pitched the final two innings and struck out all six batters he faced.

The Rebels start the season 1-0 and will be in action again on Tuesday in Esko where to take on the Eskomos. Silver Bay opens the season 0-1 and host the Esko Eskomos next Thursday at home.
