Friday night’s hockey match up between Hermantown and St. Cloud Cathedral paired a couple of teams in the State Class Top 10 Rankings.  The Hawks were ranked #2 going into their home game, while Cathedral was ranked #10.  The game did not come close to living up to its billing as the Hawks destroyed Cathedral 6-0 in a game that was in running time for the entire third period.
Goals from Ryan Carlson at 1:34 with assists from Tanner Kimball and Kyle Amundson and then Scott Wasbotten at 11:37 from Carlson gave the Hawks a 2-0 lead after one period.
The Hawks proceeded to blow the game open with four goals in the second period with the first scored at the 1:58 mark by Cole Koepke with an assist to Josh Lenard.  Kimball added a goal at 15:02 from Amundson and the flood gates opened in the last couple of minutes of the second period as Wyatt Aamodt and Wasbotten both scored in that time frame pushing the Hawks lead to 6-0.
The third period was scoreless as the high flying Hawks soared to the win by putting 45 shots on Cathedral goalie Zach Fritz who finished with 39 saves.  Hawks netminder Jace Thomas finished with 17 saves to preserve the shutout.
Hermantown improved to 11-2 on the season and the Crusaders fell to 9-5.
