In the “win or go home” world of playoff basketball, every possession is important. The Carlton Lady Bulldogs demonstrated that Thursday night when they cut down on turnovers and used a strong second half to blow open their Section 7A quarterfinal matchup against AlBrook 64-42.

Playing the early game of a playoff doubleheader in Hermantown, the Bulldogs had a few more turnovers and missed opportunities in the first half than they would have liked. Yet, they were still able to take a 34-24 halftime lead going into the locker room at halftime.

The second half was a different story. The Bulldogs scored 30 second half points and, with an early run, put the game out of reach by coasting to a 64-42 win.

Sara Aili led Carlton with 18 points. Behind her was Katie Bloom with 13 points, including two 3-pointers. Others finding the score column for the Bulldogs were Savannah Schramm with 9, Lindsey Dahl-Holm 8, Hallie Raisanen and Clarissa Nelson with 6 points each, and, with two points apiece were McKinzie Belanger and Brooke Camps.

Abby Otis turned in a fantastic game in the losing effort for the Falcons, scoring 23 of AlBrook’s 42 points.

With the win, Carlton moves on to face #1 seed Floodwood at 6:00pm Saturday at UMD. The loss ends AlBrook’s season with a record of 8-16.
