MLA Boys Close Out Regular Season With A Win

A four goal first period helped to propel the Moose Lake Area Rebels to a convincing 8-2 win over the Two Harbors Agates on Thursday night in boys hockey action played in Moose Lake.

It took a little while for the Rebels to jump-start their offense, but after Ville Mattala finally scored at 11:10 they went on a tear that saw them score four goals in a span of under five minutes. Following Mattala’s goal, it was Josh Cisar scoring at 12:00. Then, just eight seconds later, it was Chris Gassert scoring, and finally at 15:18 it was Zach Cisar scoring as the Rebels led it 4-0 after a period.

Michael Gassert managed to score the only goal of the second period at 6:21 and the Rebels were up 5-0 after two periods.

At 3:07 of the third period, Michael Unzen tacked on a goal to make it 6-0. However, a minute later, the Agates pulled to within 6-1 on a goal by Ben Ruberg. Unzen added his second goal of the game, and the period, at 7:24 to make it 7-1. After Ruberg scored his second goal of the game on the power play, the Rebels finished things off with Mattala picking up his second goal of the game at 16:13 of the final period.

MLA put 43 shots on Agate goalie Aaron Lee, who finished with 35 saves. Austin Lanoue made 25 saves on 27 shots for the Rebels.
