Women’s Game: Despite leading 32-29 at halftime and holding the lead until midway through the second half, the Thunder women lost 71-52 to visiting Central Lakes College on Wednesday evening.


The game featured 11 lead changes and eight ties until Central Lakes pulled away late in the second half. Brady Donnahue (Floodwood) led the Thunder scoring with 18 points, including 4 three-point shots. Point guard Darian Bushey (Barnum) added 17 points and 6 assists, and Lisa Muehlberger (Duluth Central) scored 9 points and pulled down 6 rebounds.


Central Lakes upped their record to 6-18 with the road win. The Thunder remain winless on the season and travel to Northland Community College on Friday for their final game of the season.


Men’s Game: Conference leaders Central Lakes College (21-5), currently ranked #8 in the NJCAA-Division III national poll, defeated the host Thunder 98-71 on Wednesday night.

Central Lakes used a balanced scoring attack with six players in double figures and outrebounded the Thunder by a 45-37 margin in the road victory. The Thunder had 26 turnovers in the game, compared to 10 for Central Lakes.


Dylan Eggen (Barnum) led the Thunder scoring with 20 points, hitting 6 of 11 three-point attempts. Curtis Houle (Barnum) added 13 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 steals in the game. Steve Lyke (Floodwood) put in 12 points and pulled down 9 rebounds in the home loss in Cloquet.


The Thunder fall to 5-19 on the season and travel to Northland Community College on Friday for their last game of the season.
