A quick start to the game offensively helped the Moose Lake Area boys hockey team to a 5-2 win over Pine City/Rush City on Monday night. The Rebels scored three first period goals en-route to the win.

Just 2:03 into the first period, Michael Unzen snapped in a goal with Rejean Carlson assisting as the Rebels went up 1-0. The Rebels moved ahead 2-0 when Zach Cisar fired home a goal with Tyler Cisar notching the assist, but the Dragons pulled to within 2-1 when Beau Peterson scored on a 5-on-3 power play at 7:56. Fortunately for the Rebels, they got that goal back when Zach Cisar scored his second goal of the game at 12:28 with Tyler Cisar again picking up the assist, and MLA led it 3-1 after a period.

The Rebels scored the only two goals of the second period at 7:48 and 11:00 when Ville Mattala, a foreign exchange student, scored back-to-back goals with Stephen Gassert picking up two assists and Chris Gassert the other. At the end of the second period the Rebels held a 5-1 lead.

Nathan Theisen scored the only goal of the third period when he converted a pass from Drew Gerold at 4:32, but that was all the closer the Dragons would get the rest of the way.

The Rebels outshot the Dragons 29 to 27 for the game. Both teams had a power play goal with MLA going 1-for-4 with a man advantage and the Dragons going 1-for-3 with the extra attacker.

Austin Lanoue made 25 saves on 27 shots for the Rebels in goal, while Dragon goalie Thomas Pitzen made 24 saves on 29 shots.
