Scholatica’s Naslund Hits 18 in Loss

JakeNaslundThe St. Scholastica men’s basketball team fell to 0-2 on the season with a 93-83 loss to Saint John’s University on Sunday in the St. Cloud State Tournament, despite a 27-point effort from Trevor Morlock and Barnum graduate Jake Naslund who finished with 18 points in the loss.

Morlock finished the day 11-of-16 shooting with four 3-point field goals, while teammate Naslund added 4- three points of his own.

After a back-and-forth effort through the first 10 minutes of the game, the Johnnies would go on a 26-5 scoring run to close out the first half making the score 51-29 at the half.

The Saints would rally back in the second half opening with a 15-7 run, which included 3-pointers from Morlock and Naslund making the score 58-44 Johnnies with 15:26 to play in the game.

The Johnnies would keep the lead at double digits until the seven minute mark when Naslund and Morlock would drain back-to-back three pointers to cut the lead to eight points.

That is all the closer the Saints could get, however, as Alex Schmitt (22 pts), Mitchell Kuck (19 pts), and Blake Maslonkowski (13 pts) kept the Saints at bay until the final buzzer sounded with the Saints falling 93-83.

The Johnnies (1-1) scored 30 points off of 18 CSS turnovers, while the Saints scored just 12 points off of nine Johnnie turnovers. Saint John’s also outscored the Saints in the paint 28-20.

Andrew Laughlin and Nathan Carlson combined for 18 points off the bench for the Saints (0-2). Morlock also grabbed a career-high 13 rebounds in the loss.

St. Scholastica will next be in action Tuesday when it takes on the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in the regular season home opener at 7:30 p.m. in the Reif Gymnasium. The action can be seen live on Saints Sports Net.
