Mirage win in O.T.

Jillayne Gilbert scored her second goal of the game 2:05 into overtime Saturday as the Mirage knocked off the Chisago Lakes Wildcats by a score of 5-4. Mikayla Kero and Reilly Fawcett assisted on the game winner as the Mirage win their second straight to open up the season.

In a tight back and forth battle which matched up two very even teams saw the Wildcats strike first when Amanda Franklin gave the Wildcats a 1-0 lead at the 3:49 mark of the first period. Kari Leonard tied the contest a minute and ten second later when her even strength goal tied the game at 1-1. Katie Mckinzie and Jackie Jonas had the assists on the goal.

The Second period saw both teams score twice with Proctor-Hermantown scoring the first two goal of the period and the Wildcats scoring the last two to see a 3-3 tie after two periods. Jillayne Gilbert scored to make it 2-1 with assists coming from Hannah Johnson and Kylie Hommerding. The Mirage made it 3-1 when scored at 7:50 when Sophie McGovern scored and assists were from Abbey Halverson and Fawcett. The Wildcats scored two goals within 2 minutes to tie the score at 3-3.

Chisago Lakes took a 4-3 lead when Franklin scored her second goal of the game at 10:50 of the third period. The Mirage though would fight back and tie the game and force it into overtime when Kero scored the game tying goal on Fawcett’s third assist of the afternoon, Chelsea Swanson added the second assist for Proctor-Hermantown.

Kylie Hommerding finished with 35 saves in the Mirage victory as they now move to 2-0 on the season and they will face the Hibbing-Chisholm Bluejackets Tuesday night in Hibbing. The Wildcats goalie Amanda Shoquist stopped 33 Mirage shots in the loss. The Wildcats fall to 0-2 this season and they will face St. Francis-North Branch on Tuesday night.
