The Esko Eskomos sported a Northland’s best record of 11-1 going into Friday’s girls basketball game. The Pequot Lakes Rangers,
came in at 10-2. losing only
to western powerhouses East Grand Forks and Hawley.
Obviously something had to give. In the end it was the team depth and outside shooting of the Rangers which proved to be too much for the Eskomos, giving them the 77-57 road win over Esko.

Pequot Lakes built a 45-22 first half lead en-route to the 20 point win. The Rangers got seven three pointers from five different players on the night. The balanced scoring attack also featured four Rangers in double figures. Kylie Beltz led the attack with18 points. She was joined by Emily Lueck with 15 and Mattie Lueck with 12 points, including two three pointers each. Also in double figures was Kendra Johnson with 12 points.

Esko got another outstanding game from Keely Deadrick, who turned in a 24 point effort, but it wasn’t enough to counter the all around Ranger effort. Joining Deadrick in double figures was Amanda Bergstedt with 10 points. Savannah Trap added 9 points, Katie Tonner 6, and Julianne Carley and Alyson Glumac rounded out the Eskomo scoring with 4 apiece.

With the loss, Esko is 11-2 on the season and will be off until Thursday when they host Moose Lake-Willow River. Pequot Lakes ups their record to 11-2 also and will face Park Rapids on Tuesday.
