Esko Girls Defeat Nashwauk-Keewatin In Coaches Classic

The hosting Esko girls basketball team defeated Nashwauk-Keewatin 58-49 to earn a spot in the championship game of the Esko Coach’s Classic tournament Friday evening.


The Eskomos jumped out to an early halftime lead by a score of 36-21 en route to a 58-39 victory. With the victory, the Eskomos remained undefeated on the season with a record of 7-0, while handing N-K their first loss of the season.


Esko will put their perfect record on the line Saturday at 7:30 pm when they take on the Floodwood Polar Bears. The meeting will be a rematch of an exciting three point Esko victory on December 3rd.


The Eskomos were led in scoring by another impressive performance from junior Keely Deadrick, who led all scorers with 19 points on the evening. Lydia Pelletier was also in double figures for the Eskomos with 12 points, while pulling down 8 rebounds. Rounding out the scoring for Esko was Amanda Bergstedt with 9 points, Julianne Carley and Alyson Glumac each added 7 points, and Savanna Trapp, who left in the first half with a knee injury, added 4 points.


Nashwauk-Keewatin had eight players recording points with Lindsey Kingsbury and Elizabeth Sletten scoring 14 and 12 points respectively.
