CARLTON – The Carlton Bulldogs entered this season hoping to get off to a fast start, but that didn’t happen on Friday as the Bulldogs fell at home to the McGregor Mercuries 79-47.

McGregor jumped out to an early
28-10 lead. Carlton cut the lead to ten but wouldn’t get any closer as the Mercuries went on a 30-7 run to close out the first half and led at the break 58-27.

The run by McGregor occurred when Carlton senior guard Allan Davis picked up his third foul and had to sit the remainder of the half. Davis, one of the floor leaders for the Bulldogs, could only watch as McGgregor increased an insurmountable lead.

Carlton played much better in the second half, but the Mercuries were tough enough defensively to not let the Bulldogs make a sustained run. “We needed to play much better than we did tonight.” Head Coach Carl Grussendorf told Northland Sports Online. “We dug to big of a hole to get back into the game,” “the fouls and turnovers cost us when they went on their big run.” Grussendorf added.

Jake Adams led the Bulldogs in scoring with 17 points, including three 3-pointers, Jasper Youngren scored 8 points for Carlton, and Allan Davis, and Matthew Lund each finished with 7 points on the night.

Mcgregor’s Alex Carlstrom led all scores with 21 points. Carlton falls to 0-1 on the season and will be in action again on Tuesday night when the Bulldogs host the Barnum Bombers.
