NSO-NEWS RELEASE

Exciting news to share in the School District of Superior!  Last night the School Board voted to take the first steps in moving forward on the planning and construction of a new track/field, football, soccer, and baseball complex at SHS.  This project has been in the works since 1990.  Finally, in 2013, we have the necessary funding for the project to move forward.  The original committee that started this work in 1990 has changed of course, but the passion for creating a sports complex that the entire community can be proud has never faltered.

A brief history on the funding:

In the early 1980’s the School District of Superior separated from the city.  At that time a fund called the ‘sinking fund’ was turned over to the District. The School Board at the time had the forward vision to invest the money which was approximately $1.4 million.  That investment matured in 2004/2005 with a new balance of $6.4 million.  The School Board at that time also had the forward vision to pass a resolution that only the interest would be used – and only used for capital projects.  This interest coupled with the old building fund has enough money available to move forward on this incredible project without putting anything on the taxpayers!   Our current School Board continues to have a forward view of not only using the money as intended but also planning for the future by building the fund back up for future Boards.

Again, it is exciting for our School District and our Superior community to have such phenomenal sports complex in the works!
