Swain Runners Through the Elements

On a day most suitable for being inside enjoying a cup of hot chocolate more then 2700 runners representing over 120 high schools from Minnesota and Wisconsin made their way to Enger Park Golf Course where the 62nd Annual Swain Cross country meet was held Saturday. It was Forest Lake and The Trinity School capturing the girls titles and on the boys side it was Totino Grace and Mora taking home the Boys titles.

Lizzy Heil won the girls AA race with a time of 15:17, Heil is from St. Michael-Albertiville, Sarah Conlon of South St. Paul was second and Michaela Brands from Totino Grace was third. Cloquet’s Anja Maijila was the area top finisher as she was 15th overall.

Phoebe Koski was the top finisher for Duluth East Saturday afternoon, and Isabella Evavold was the Superior Spartans top finisher in the girls AA race as she finished 54th overall. Koski finished in 25th fro the Greyhounds.

Mary Naas of St. Paul Academy won the A event, she was followed closely by Judy Larson of Norwood, and in third place it was Theresa Mueller of The Trinity School.

Esko who finished 10th in the girls event was led by Kailee Kiminski who was 13th on the day with a time of 16:33. MLWR saw their best finisher Nicole Tekippe come in at 14th place right behind Kiminski. Ann Kleinschmidt was 75th overall and the top for the Hilltoppers. The Carlton Bulldogs Erika Fox was 12th on the day.

Dylan Marvel was the top boys finisher in AA for the boys as he finished 9th overall, Cloquet teammate Issac Boedigheimer finished 15th on the day for the Lumberjacks. Keaton Long finished 24th for the Duluth East Greyhounds, and it was Ryan Kero who placed 13th on the day for the Hermantown Hawks, & Robert McCleary was 63rd for the Superior Spartans.

Matt Rengo placed the fourth place Eskomos on the boys side as he placed 15th on the day, Proctor who finished eighth as a team was led by Zack Smith who placed fourth in the A race, Chase Peterson was the top finisher for MLWR as he finished 24th, and Pentti Halon was the top runner for Duluth Marshall as he finished eleventh on the race.
