Panthers Pound Nitehawks

The South Ridge Panthers came away with another win last Friday when they beat the Northeast Range Nighthawks 48-14. The Panthers are now 4-1 while Northeast Range drops to 0-5 in the Big North 9-Man Conference.

South Ridge Senior Quarterback Spencer Otis recorded his first start and threw for 83 yards (4-5) and two touchdowns. Drew Janke caught both passing touchdowns for a total of 47 yards. Drew leads the team this season in touchdowns, with a total of 11 touchdowns in 5 games.

The Panthers ran the ball more this week, with Bill Redding leading all rushers with 84 yards on six carries and one touchdown; Followed by Zach Johnson with 64 yards on two carries, and Jeff Kuhlman finished with 41 yards on eight carries and one touchdown. Zach also scored on a 60 yard kick off return, and finished with 183 all purpose yards.

The Panthers had a great night defensively as well. Cole Watkins led the team with 5 tackles and 1 sack. Brian Miller had 4 tackles, and Reid Clark, Joe Williams, and Jake Carlson each added 3 tackles. Bill Redding came away with another interception.

The Panthers will take on the Northwoods Grizzlies this Friday. The Panthers (4-1) and Grizzlies (4-1) are tied for second place in the Big North Conference behind the Ely Timberwolves (5-0). The game will be at South Ridge in Culver, Mn. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
