The Barnum Bombers girls volleyball team was hoping to make history this fall by making a state birth to the Minnesota state volleyball tournament. However, that dream ended on Thursday when they fell to Nevis 3-0.

The Bombers battled the very strong and tall Nevis Tigers, and in the end it was the Tigers overwhelming height advantage and Barnum’s costly mistakes that advnaced Nevis to the section championship game to be held on Saturday afternoon.

The Bombers lost the first game by a score of 25-22 and a close second game by 25-20. The third game was also close with the Bombers season coming to an end after a 25-19 loss. Barnum, who was swept for the first time all season, made their first appearance in the section semi-finals.

Katrina Newman led the Bombers with 15 kills and 7 digs. Jenna Zymslony finished with 5 kills and 3 digs. Jessica Newman had 24 set assists and 9 digs on the night for Barnum. Karianna Duesler also added 7 digs for the Bombers.

The Bombers season comes to a close with an overall record of 23-3–the best record in the history of the Barnum volleyball program. Nevis improves to 23-5 overall and will face Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa in the Section 5A finals.

Northland Sports Online would like to congratulate the five seniors on this year’s Bombers squad: Katrina Newman, Candice Paulson, Jaimee Wickstrom, Samantha Parker, and Jenna Zymslony and thank them for all of their hard work and dedication over the years.
