The Duluth East girls soccer snapped their 9 game losing streaking with a shutout victory over the Esko Eskimos, 3-0.

The scoring started midway through the 1st half when sophomore Emma Spooner scored from 18 yards out with the assist going to senior Brittney Olson. That would give the Hounds a 1-0 lead at halftime over the Eskimos. Duluth East keeper made Roni Rudolph made 2 saves in the first half, while Esko keeper DeAhna Kulas made 7 saves in the half.

Duluth East didn’t stop their attack then, when senior Darian Bergerson punched an unassisted goal into the net from 8 yards out giving the Hounds a 2-0 lead. Duluth East scored once more when Anna Rauzi had a beautiful header off of a impressive corner kick from Emma Spooner. That’d be the end of the scoring, but not the end of the excitement. With 23 minutes left in the game, Esko had their best scoring opportunity, but Hounds keeper, Roni Rudolph made a beautiful diving save that would preserve the shutout. Esko keeper DeAhna Kulas also had a gorgeous save herself, when East had another chance to score and Kulas dove to her right and made an airborne save to keep the score where it was. Rudolph would end the night with 5 saves and Kulas would put in a nice performance with 13 saves.

Duluth East improved to 2-9 on the season with the win and they dropped Esko to 5-5-1, but Esko would bounce back with a 6-0 win over Eveleth-Gilber on September 24th to get them back above .500 with a 6-5-1 record.

The Hounds will be back into action on Thursday, September 26th when they travel to play the Grand Rapids Thunderhawks (2-6). Esko will also be in action on the 26th, when they take on the Hermantown Hawks (9-1-1) at home.
