Hunters fall to Cambridge in Season Opener

Cambridge-Isanti handed Duluth Denfeld a 34-0 shutout loss in the Aug. 29 season-opener at George Larson Field in Cambridge in a Mississippi 8 Conference match-up. The Hunters who entered Thursday’s game looking to end a 13 game losing streak saw the Bluejackets take a 14-0 halftime lead and finish with the 34 point victory.

Max Knowlton scored on a 1 yard run and a 20-yard reception from John Solberg for a  Bluejacket lead in the first half. Hunter Vavra added second half touchdown runs of 20 and 2 yards, along with covering the ball after a blocked punt for another score. Vavra led all rushers with 80 yards on 10 carries, and the Bluejacket defense limited Denfeld to 69 total yards of offense on the night.

The Hunters start the season 0-1 overall and they will be back in action again next Friday night when the Hunters will host Chisago Lakes in a conference contest at Public School Stadium. The Wildcats opened with a 40-7 win over Big Lake. The Bluejackets look to start the season 2-0 next Friday when they travel to Duluth to face the Greyhounds of Duluth East.
