Hermantown Splits in Tennis Opener

The Hermantown Hawks girls tennis team opened their 2013 season by splitting two matches Monday afternoon in St. Francis at the Fighting Saints Invitational. The Hawks opened with a 5-2 victory over the host Fighting Saints, and then fell to Cambridge by a score of 7-0 as the Bluejackets swept the Hawks. The first meet of the season featured four schools each playing two matches. Rocori was the other school participating in the meet.

Cambridge also defeated Rocori to go 2-0 in the invitational and win the meet while it was the Hawks and Rocori both finishing 1-1 while St. Francis was 0-2 in the meet. The Hawks will be in action again on Wednesday when they will face the Greyhounds of Duluth East at the Longview Tennis Club in Duluth Wednesday afternoon.
