Carlton Volleyball Looks To Have Another Successful Season

Last season the young Bulldogs had a spectacular season with an impressive season record of 22-8 and a conference record of 9-1 with an appearance in the Section 7A Finals. The Bulldogs are returning an entire roster except for one senior from last season and they are hungry for another successful season!

The Bulldogs will be young again this season, but also return with a lot more experience. They return one senior, six juniors, and three sophomores, who are all from last years squad. While young, the Bulldogs have some big goals in mind such as winning the Polar League, making it back to the Section 7A Finals, and of course, advancing onto state for the 3rd time in school history. “We have the experience of playing in the big game now and hopefully that will benefit us this season and get us back into that situation. The girls have been working very hard this offseason.” coach Barb Soukkala told Northland Sports Online, “The defense has improved a lot since last season but we still need to improve on things such as serve receive and being able to side out”.

The Bulldogs have high expectations after a successful season last year, but coach Barb Soukkala said they also want to have fun while playing too! “A lot of things can happen throughout the year. We are just going to prepare hard for each game and see where we end up in November. We have a great group of girls, they are hard workers and are very fun to be around.”

The Bulldogs are playing a very difficult schedule this year which includes three tournaments that have very good competition in them. One game that coach Barb Soukkala said the team always gets excited for is their match-up with their rivals the Esko Eskomos. They are also excited to play their season opener against Deer River (who beat them in the last regular season match last year) on August 27th at 7PM.
