It took four overtimes before Zimmerman managed to pull out an 80-79 victory over the scrappy Cloquet Lumberjacks in boys basketball on Friday night.

The Lumberjacks, behind a 32-point effort from Adam Laine, held a 34-32 lead at halftime and at one point in the second half they led by as many as seven points before the Thunder pulled even and eventually won in the fourth overtime.

At the end of regulation play it was deadlocked at 63-63 and both teams managed only two points in the first two extra sessions. After two overtimes the score was even at 69-69. Both teams scored five points in the third overtime and the Thunder managed to sneak out the win after outscoring Cloquet 8-7 in the fourth overtime session.

Cloquet took a 79-78 lead with 14 seconds remaining in the fourth overtime when Nate Weets drilled a 3-pointer from beyond the arc. However, Jake Wilson, who led the Thunder with 27 points, scored with only four seconds remaining in regulation to give Zimmerman the hard-earned victory.

Jake Bushey added 11 points for the Jacks, while Weets collected 10 points. Both Zach Gerlach and Dillon Johnson had eight points for Cloquet and Aaron Johnson finished with six points and Marquez Evans added four points to close out the Lumberjack scoring.
