It took a Connor Flaherty overtime goal, but the Marshall Hilltopper boys hockey team managed to skate away with a 3-2 victory over the Hibbing/Chisholm Blue Jackets on Tuesday night in Hibbing.

H-C took a 1-0 lead in the first period at 13:21 on a power play goal by Billy Wherland with Adam Johnson and Derek Abrahamson assisting. That score stood until late in the second period when Marshall got a shorthanded goal with eight seconds remaining in the period by Kris McKinzie with an assist to Jeremy Lopez.

Abrahamson gave the Blue Jackets a 2-1 lead at 12:20 of the third period and it looked like HC might hang on for the win. Luke Pavelich tied the game for the Hilltoppers with only 1:29 left in regulation. The Pavelich goal was assisted by Jordan Fralich and Kyle Jones.

The Hilltoppers won the game in overtime when Connor Flaherty took a feed from Cam McClure and Jack Dodd and got the puck past Tyler Carson, the HC goalie, for the game winner.

Carson had a busy night and finished with 41 saves for the Blue Jackets, while Caden Flahery made 34 saves for the Hilltoppers.
