Two days after taking down her most recent postseason award, University of Minnesota Duluth junior outside hitter Kate Lange received further confirmation that she had one of the country’s most productive seasons in 2012. Lange was named third team All-America by Daktronics on Wednesday, marking her second such selection this fall — she was named a first team All-American by the American Volleyball Coaches Association on Monday.

An AVCA first team All-American as a sophomore, Lange started all 34 matches in helping UMD to a record of 29-5 and a second consecutive share of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference title behind a league mark of 18-2. As the focal point of the Bulldog attack, she set a career high with an NSIC-leading 569 kills on her way to being named the league’s Player of the Year. Lange reached double figures in kills in every match on the year (as she did in 2011) and has now posted 10-plus kills in 67 straight matches, a streak that dates back to Nov. 18, 2010. Lange, who became the 16th Bulldog to blast 1,000 kills in a career earlier this season,is currently on pace to graduate as the program’s all-time leader in career kills. A two-time all-region honoree this fall, Lange claimed NSIC Offensive Player of the Week Honors on three occasions (Sept. 10, Sept. 17 and Oct. 1) and took down AVCA National Player of the Week Honors Sept. 18, becoming the first UMD player in nearly five years to do so.
