Rachel McCauley picked up the hat trick and Kailey Buhr added two goals as the Cloquet-Esko-Carlton girls hockey team picked up their first win of the season by beating Chisago Lakes Area 8-1 on the road in Lindstrom last night.

After falling behind just 1:27 into the game the Jacks rallied back with three straight first period tallies. Buhr started the onslaught with an assist to Carley Esse at the 8:20 mark and that was followed by back-to-back goals by McCauley at 11:15 and 13:45. The first of McCauley’s goals was assisted by Kristi Konietzko and the second by Mackenzie Roy and Buhr.

CEC’s leading scorer on the season, Emily Gustafson, scored at 6:29 of the second period with Ashley Krisak assisting as the Jacks built a 4-1 lead. At 13:27 it was Courtney Ketola scoring from Mikayla Baker and Makayla Langenbrunner to push the lead to 5-1. The second period scoring wrapped up when Buhr connected on the power play from Jade Alvillar and Roy at 16:45 and CEC closed out the second period up 6-1.

McCauley completed her hat trick at 13:51 of the final period with Konietzko and Esse assisting and at 14:27 it was Kaitlyn Miller adding the final goal of the game from Gustafson.

CEC netminder Katie Beckman finished with 18 saves on 19 shots to backstop the Jacks to the win, while CLA goalie Amanda Shoquist finished with 38 saves.

The Jacks are now 1-2-1 on the season. The Jacks will be off until next Tuesday when they travel to Grand Rapids to take on the Lightning. The contest is a re-match of last year’s section semi-finals where the Jacks lost a tight thriller in double overtime.
