Moose Lake Area Girls Get Second Win in as Many Games to Begin Season

Jessica Bird had the hat trick and the Moose Lake Area girls hockey team used a strong second period to defeat Minnehaha 6-0 on Saturday at Riverside Arena in Moose Lake and stay undefeated on the early season. On Tuesday the Rebels got a tight 2-1 win over Pequot Lakes.

After a scoreless first period the Rebels broke the game open with three second period goals with the first coming at 6:53 from Bird with Cheyanne Wilson assisting. At 7:19 the Rebels struck again when Erin Mollberg took a pass from Georgia Ryan and slammed home a goal and finally the Rebels added their third goal of the period at 11:59 when Ryan scored from Bird and Hannah Dougherty to make it 3-0.

The Rebels tallied three more times in the third period with the first goal coming at 7:45 from Bird with Mollberg assisting. At 12:15 Sage Gerard added a goal from Mackenzie Louzek and finally it was Bird finishing off her hat trick at 12:58 with Mollberg adding the assist.

The Rebels pounded 42 shots on Julia Carle of Minnehaha who finished with 36 saves, while Kaitlyn Greene finished with the shutout and 18 saves for the Rebels.


On Tuesday night the Rebels hosted Pequot Lakes and MLA skated away with a 2-1 victory in a tightly played affair. Cheyanne Wilson picked up the only goal of the first period at 14:40 as the Rebels edged ahead 1-0 after one period of play.

After a scoreless second period the Rebels took a 2-0 lead with only 2:04 remaining in the third period when Karina Cisar scored from Hannah Dougherty, but Pequot Lakes cut into the lead with goal with 1:18 left in regulation. However, the Rebel defense and goalie Kaitlyn Greene slammed the door the rest of the way on Pequot Lakes to come away with a win.

Greene finished with 30 saves on 31 shots, while Pequot Lakes goalie Kat Jenson finished with 30 saves on 32 shots.
