DULUTH- As the Barnum Bombers took the field Saturday afternoon they knew it was going to be a game where they would not be able to use their speed and quickness to their advantage; instead the Bombers were had to focus on taking care of the ball. With the weather not fit for man or beast, the Bombers would fall Saturday afternoon to the Mahnomen Indians by a score of 26-0 as Mahnomen now move into the state semi-finals.

Mahnomen, who had the state’s top defense with six shutouts in the regular season, saw the Bombers struggle offensively. The Bombers were unable to use their quickness and Mahnomen jumped out to a 14-0 halftime lead. The Bombers and the Indians both struggled in the first quarter as turnovers were the theme of the day with neither team taking advantage of the first quarter.

In the second quarter, following Barnum’s third turnover of the half, it was the Indians driving down the field with Trevor Haugo scoring on a 7 yard touchdown run to put the Indians in front 8-0 after a two point conversion. Mahnomen scored again as time expired in the first half when Jacob Pavek scored on a 1 yard touchdown run.

Barnum could never get anything going offensively Saturday as they struggled to find momentum in the contest. Barnum had several chances to keep drives alive, but a few dropped passes and untimely turnovers would stop Barnum throughout the game.

Mahnomen sealed the victory in the third quarter when they added two more touchdowns. Again Pavek scored on a two yard run, then Pavek connected with Nathan Hansen on a 35 yard touchdown pass as the Bombers very successful season comes to an end with an overall record of 9-3 on the season.

The Indians, with the victory improve to 12-0 and advance to the state semi-finals next Saturday at the Mall of America field in Minneapolis. The Bombers will graduate nine seniors this season and Northland Sports online would like to thank those nine players for all of their hard work and dedication to the program throughout the years.
