UMD Climbs To No. 4 In NCAA Regional Rankings

The NCAA Women’s Volleyball Regional Rankings have been released, and the University of Minnesota Duluth moved up a slot to No. 4 in the Central Region, which consists of schools from the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference, the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association and the Great American Conference.


In Wednesday’s rankings (the second of 2012), the NSIC had six of the top ten teams, with five-time defending National Champions of Concordia University-St. Paul in the top spot. Southwest Minnesota State University is third, followed by the Bulldogs at four, Wayne State at seven, Augustana College in the No. 9 slot and Winona State University rounding out the top 10.


The national tournament selection will take place on November 18. The top eight teams in the region will advance to the NCAA Central Region Tournament which begins November 29. UMD (25-3 overall) has qualified for each of the last 10 NCAA Tournaments under head coach Jim Boos, who took over prior to the start of the 2002 season.


The Bulldogs wrap up the 2012 regular season this weekend at Romano Gymnasium with matches against Minot State University and the University of Mary. UMD will begin postseason play in the NSIC tournament, which features the league’s top eight teams after the conclusion of the regular season.
