Hermantown senior three sport standout Kevin Folman will be signing his national letter of intent to attend North Dakota State University in Fargo Minnesota and will be playing baseball for the Bison starting next year.

Folman who is a three sport standout for Hermantown has been a vital part of the Hermantown football program as a quarterback, as well as an outstanding player for the Hawks basketball team. Folman will be attending NDSU and has been recruited as a pitcher for the Bison.

Folman told Northland Sports Online “I was thinking about UMD or St. Scholastica before touring the campus. Then I went for a campus visit and I knew it was where I wanted to go to college and where I wanted to play baseball.”

“The baseball program was down for several years, but head coach Todd Brown has started to turn things around.” Folman said “I want to be part of a strong program and I think the future will be good with NDSU.”

Folman will be attending North Dakota State University next year along with another three sport standout, Katie Thun of Hermantown. Thun will be attending NDSU on a softball scholarship and Folman mentioned “It’s kind of neat that there are two of us going there to play ball, I haven’t talked much to her about going there but I hope to soon.”

Folman has been part of three strong sports programs at Hermantown and has helped resurrect all three of the programs. Folman helped lead the Football team to two Lake Superior Conference Championships and made it to the section championship game the past two seasons.

Folman has also been a key cog in the boys’ basketball program that has done a complete 360, going from the bottom of the conference standings to near the top of the conference and have played in the section semi-finals the past two seasons. It had been 10 years since the Hawks basketball team had advanced that far in the playoffs.

The Hermantown baseball team has also seen Folman being an important member of the team, which has finished as section runners up twice in the past three seasons and last year they finished third in the section playoffs and were ranked in the state baseball polls most of the season.

While attending North Dakota State University, Folman will be majoring in civil engineering. Kevin is the son of Jerry and Cathy Folman and has one sister Ellen, who is in college at the University of Minnesota. Kevin also mentioned that his parents are his biggest role models and his biggest supporters. Northland Sports Online wishes all the best to Kevin and his future at NDSU.
