Kelsey Kehtel Name UMAC Offensive Player of the Year

For the second consecutive season, St. Scholastica’s Kelsey Kehtel (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) has been named the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference’s (UMAC) Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Year; it was announced on Tuesday.


The Duluth East grad was also named to the conference’s first team, along with Andrea Beatt (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove HS), Shannon Carlson (Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury HS), Taylor Cunningham (Eau Claire, Wis./Eau Claire Memorial HS), Logan Williamson (Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson HS) and Kelsey Reeves (Eagle River, Alaska/Eagle River HS ).


Another former Greyhound, Joey Moore (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS), earned second team accolades and Maggie Dolan (Minneapolis, Minn./St. Anthony Village HS) was named to the Sportsmanship Team.


Kehtel, who was named the offensive and rookie player of the year during her freshman campaign, has duplicated her scoring output from her freshman season with 20 goals. Kehtel is the first St. Scholastica women’s soccer player to record back-to-back 20-goal seasons.


With at least one more game left to play in the NCAA Division III Tournament, Kehtel has four more assists than last season (8) for 48 points on the year. In conference games only, Kehtel scored a league-high 18 goals and recorded a conference-best 44 points. After not registering a single point in her first four games of the season, Kehtel recorded three hat tricks, including two, four-goal games.


Beatt is named first team All-UMAC for the second consecutive year. Beatt finished second on the team and in the conference with 15 goals. Her 13 goals in league play ranked her third and she was also third with 29 points. Beatt scored the game-winning goal in overtime in Saturday’s UMAC Tournament championship game against the University of Minnesota Morris. Beatt has 89 career points, which ranks her 10th in program history.


Carlson earns first team All-UMAC honors for the second time in her career with the first coming during her freshman season. Carlson led the conference in league games with 15 assists. Her 14 goals scored vs. UMAC opponents were the second-most in the conference. Her 43 points for the season was also second-best in the conference.


Cunningham earns first team all-conference laurels for the third straight season. The 2010 UMAC Rookie of the Year was fourth in the conference with 10 assists in league games this season. At one point during the season, Cunningham had assists in six games of a seven-game span.


Williamson, a defender, earns first team All-UMAC accolades for the first time in her career. Williamson did it both defensively and offensively this season for the Saints. As the corner kick specialist, she registered 12 assists, the second-most of the team. She also scored two goals in the first two games of the season vs. Macalester College and Concordia College-Moorhead.


Freshman goalkeeper Kelsey Reeves (Eagle River, Alaska/Eagle River HS ) is named first team All-UMAC. Reeves led the conference with a 0.58 goals-against-average, .876 save percentage and nine shutouts this season. Reeves allowed just four goals in conference play.


Moore is named second team All-UMAC for the second straight season. Moore was an anchor in the center of the field for the Saints this season. She played a factor in the fewest goals allowed in the conference (11) and transitioning the team into the most goals scored in the league (90). Moore had a goal and six assists this season.


Katie Kestner of Minnesota Morris and Heidi Anderson of Northwestern College were named the UMAC Co-Defensive Players of the Year. Kathryn Scislow of Bethany Lutheran College was named the Rookie of the Year and Minnesota Morris’ Dan Magner was the Coach of the Year.
