The Carlton Bulldogs were hoping on Saturday they could find the magic they have had thus far in the section 7A playoffs and entering the section finals in a big gym with a lot of noise and an electric atmosphere was something the Bulldogs hoped would work in their favor.

North Woods, who lost to Cherry in last season’s section championship match, were more experienced with the bigger stage and it showed Saturday afternoon as the Grizzles would sweep the Bulldogs and capture their first section title as the North Woods Grizzles.

Northwoods, like South Ridge were part of the St. Louis County School Districts restructuring with a new school and the combining of Cook and Orr high schools to form the new North Woods school.

The Grizzles swept the Bulldogs, winning the first game of the match 25-12, the second game was a 25-19 contest in favor of the Grizzles, and the third game of the match was the closest game of the match, with Northwoods coming away with the 25-20 victory.

The Bulldogs were led Saturday afternoon by Clarissa Nelson, who finished with 11 kills and 15 digs. Hannah Benson added 15 set assists; Brianna Walton had 9 set assists, while Grace Macor added 4 kills, and 5 digs. Macy Belich turned in a nice all around game adding 9 kills and 8 digs for the Bulldogs.

Carlton finishes the season with an impressive overall record of 22-8 on the season. The Grizzles now improve 23-3 and they will advance to the state girls volleyball tournament which begins this week in St. Paul.
