Mike Dietrich of the Minnesota Wilderness named Pizza Hut player of the week

The Superior International Junior Hockey League announced Thursday that Mike Dietrich of the Minnesota Wilderness has been named the Pizza Hut player of the week for the period concluding Oct. 21.


In three games last week the 20-year-old South Hampton, N.J. product registered six points helping the league-leading Wilderness skate to a trio of victories.


Dietrich opened his award-winning performance by tallying twice and tacking on two assists in a 10-2 win over Dryden on Oct. 19.


The forward followed that with another goal in a 5-2 victory over the Ice Dogs the following evening and wrapped up his week by picking up an assist in a 5-1 road win at Duluth on Sunday.


Dietrich currently leads all SIJHL skaters in offensive production with 25 points in 15 games on nine goals and 16 assists. He is also riding a 12-game point streak.


In recognition of his on-ice efforts he will be presented a gift card courtesy of Pizza Hut.


Honorable mention for the Pizza Hut player of the week award went to Jordan Christianson, (F) Fort Frances Lakers; Kolton Kahoot, (F) Thunder Bay North Stars; Trevor Hoth, (F) Minnesota Iron Rangers; Dan Morin, (D) Dryden Ice Dogs and Austin Snedden, (F) Duluth Clydesdales.


At the conclusion of the 2012-13 regular season, the SIJHL’s top performer will be presented the league’s Pizza Hut player of the year award.
