Barnum turned a case of the butterfingers by Ogilvie into a rout in the Section 7A football playoffs on Tuesday night. The Bombers beat Ogilvie 50-12 as the Lions fumbled eight times and lost the ball to Barnum four times.

The Bombers recovered a Lions fumble early in the first quarter and then scored on their first offensive play when Colton Selix bounced into the end zone from the seven-yard line and Brandon Newman added the conversion run to make it 8-0 with 9:27 remaining in the first quarter. Danny Warpula added two scores in the first quarter on a 16 and 22-yard runs respectively. Newman added a conversion run on the first score and the quarter ended with the Bombers leading 22-0.

Selix scored back-to-back touchdowns in the second quarter with the first coming on a 48-yard touchdown on a punt return and the second on a three-yard plunge. At the end of the first half the Bombers were up 36-0.

Zach Peterson tacked on a one-yard touchdown run in the third quarter and Mitch Weller added a four-yard touchdown scamper in the opening minute of the fourth quarter to push the lead to 50-0. Cody Shelgren added the two point conversion on Weller’s score.

Ogilvie added two late scores, but by that point the game was already decided and the Bombers were moving on to the Section 7A semifinals against Walker-Hackensack-Akeley who defeated East Central 19-14.

Barnum, which lost their first two games of the season, has been on a 7-0 roll since then. They opened with tight losses to Moose Lake-Willow River and to Cloquet, who are in class AA and Class AAAA respectively.

The Bombers will host Walker-Hackensack-Akeley on Saturday at 2:00pm. The #4 seeded Wolves advanced with a 19-14 win over #5 East Central.
