The Section 7A girls soccer tournament got underway yesterday with a number of first round games. Among those games were a win by Esko-Carlton and a loss by Proctor.

Hillary Anderson had a four-point night as the Eskomos rolled to a 6-0 first-round win over the Agates in Esko. Anderson finished with a pair of first half goals and two second half assists in leading her team to the win.

Bailey Mudek got things started for E-C with a goal from Dallas Cossalter just eight minutes into the game and that was followed by goals that were back-to-back by Anderson in the 10th and 24th minute respectively. The first of Anderson’s goals was on a penalty kick and the second was assisted by Cossalter.

In the second half Brooke Schramm took a feed from Anderson in the 44th minute to make the score 4-0 and then in the 59th minute Anderson fed Kaylee Smalley for what would be the first of two goals by Smalley. Smalley wrapped up the scoring in the 79th minute when she scored on a feed from Kailee Kiminski.

DeAhna Kulas did not have to make a save for the Eskomos in the win, while Agate goalie Samantha Dewey finished with nine saves on 15 shots from the Eskomos.

After a scoreless first half, Chisago Lakes Area broke free from the Rails to post a 3-0 victory. Goals just five minutes apart in the second half by Madeline and Kara Herr jump-started CLA to the win. Allegro capped off the second half scoring binge in the 77th minute to make the final 3-0 and pick up win.

Kassie Headtke finished with 14 saves on 17 shots in goal for the Rails.

In other action Hermantown scored an even dozen goals against visiting Eveleth-Gilbert and Cloquet was an easy 7-0 winner over Becker. Denfeld also posted a shutout with a 5-0 win over Hibbing-Chisholm, North Branch defeated Zimmerman 4-1, and Duluth Marshall won by a 3-1 margin over Grand Rapids.

Top seeded Princeton had a first round bye. Quarterfinal action continues on Saturday with the high seeds as hosts.
