Rebels Notch 3-1 Road Win Over Wrenshall

The Moose Lake-Willow River Rebels knocked off Wrenshall Tuesday night in a Polar League conference contest at Wrenshall High School. The win ended a two game losing streak for the Rebels and prepares them as they will have to face the 18-2 Hermantown Hawks on Thursday night.


The Rebels picked up wins in the first two games of the match by scores of 25-19 and 25-20, before Wrenshall rebounded in the third game of the match to knock off the Rebels 25-10. The Rebels responded right back as they beat the Wrens 25-15 in the fourth game of the match to take the match in three games.


The Rebels who have won three of their last six matches were led by Miranda Johnson who finished with 17 set assists and 8 digs, Hayley Johnson finished with 15 digs, and Karina Cisar added 6 kills to match Andrea Youngberg with the same amount of kills. Nikki Grutkowski closed the Rebels stats on the night with 6 ace serves.


The Wrens were led by Chloe Swanson who finished with 3 kills, 12 digs, and 11 set assists, Tatum Swanson added 8 kills, 11 digs, and 2 blocks. Delaney Kittel chipped in with 15 digs, while Shana Laveau had 2 kills, 4 digs and 8 set assists. Brittany O’Brien had 4 kills and 8 digs, and it was Ashlynn Carlson who was 100% serving for Wrenshall.


The victory by the Rebels improves them to 7-13 overall on the season and they are back in action again on Thursday night when they will face the Lake Superior Conference Champion Hawks in Hermantown. The Rebels will compete in the Esko Tournament on Saturday before closing out their season on Tuesday night when they will face the Bombers in Barnum.


The Wrenshall Wrens fall to 3-11 on the season and they will be back in action Thursday when they host Carlton at home. The Wrens will close out the season on Monday and Tuesday when they will face South Ridge and Cromwell with those matches also being played at Wrenshall High School.
