Bulldogs Go 2-1 In Mora Tournament

The Carlton Bulldogs went 3-1 on Saturday to capture 5th place in the Mora Volleyball Invitational Tournament. The Bulldogs continued their season long habit of playing well in tournaments.


The Bulldogs opened pool play on Saturday with a two game sweep over the Jaguars of Hinckley-Finlayson. The Bulldogs won the first game 25-13 and they completed the sweep with a 25-14 victory in the second game of the match.


The second round of pool play action saw the Bulldogs jump out with a win over North Branch in the first game of the match with a 25-20 victory. The Vikings trailing by one game to Carlton would bounce back in the next game and defeat Carlton 25-19 to even the match at 1-1. The Vikings continued with the comeback knocking off Carlton again in the third game 15-6 to advance into the undefeated bracket of the tournament.


With the loss, the Bulldogs dropped into the bracket with teams that were 1-1 in their first two games. The Bulldogs responded following the loss to North Branch as they defeated Providence Academy in two games both by the score of 25-18.


The victory over Providence Academy moved the Bulldogs into the 5th place match where the Bulldogs faced Washburn High School of Washburn Wisconsin. The Bulldogs knocked off Washburn 25-23 and 25-21 to take home the fifth place finish.


The Bulldogs, with the three wins in the tournament improve to 17-6 on the season and they will be in action again on Tuesday night when the Bulldogs will face Cromwell at home in a Polar League Conference match up as the close out their regular season schedule at home.
