Rebels Get Come-From-Behind 3-1 Win Over Floodwood

The Moose Lake-Willow River Rebels girls volleyball team knocked off the Floodwood Polar Bears in a Polar League volleyball match up Thursday night in Moose Lake. The Rebels, who were coming off a three game loss to the Esko Eskomos on Tuesday night, bounced back after falling behind Thursday to Floodwood to take the 3-1 win Thursday.


The Rebels dropped the first game of the match 25-23 in a tight battle but bounced back in the second game of the match with another close contest as the Rebels won this time by a score of 25-23 to even the match at one game apiece. The third game of the set saw the Rebels pick up a six point win at 25-19.


The fourth and final game of the set saw the Rebels come through with their third straight win as the beat the Polar Bears 25-18 in the last game of the match for the victory Thursday night. The win couldn’t have come at a better time for the Rebels as the Rebels who started the season 4-1 and only won once in their last 11 matches.


The Rebels were led by Chloe Maloney who finished with 10 kills on the night, Miranda Johnson added 12 set assists, and Andrea Youngberg added 8 kills, while Jolene Easton added 7 kills. Hayley Johnson chipped in with 10 digs for the Rebels.


The Polar Bears were led by Sara Scharnberg who finished with 11 kills, 16 digs and 4 ace serves for Floodwood, Megan Aho added 7 kills and 18 digs, and it was Stacey Larva who ended with 7 kills, 16 digs, and was 100 percent on her serving.


With the win, the Rebels improve to 6-11 overall and they even their record in conference play to 4-4 overall. The Polar Bears with the loss fall to 3-10 overall on the season and they drop to 1-5 in conference action.


The Rebels will be in action again next Tuesday when they will host the Cromwell Cardinals in a Polar League Battle. The Polar Bears are back in action again on this weekend when they travel to Pierz to play in a 12 team tournament.
