Scoring seven goals over two games, most people were talking about the University of Minnesota Duluth offense this weekend, but the Bulldogs could not have turned their season around without stellar goalkeeping behind the back line. Freshman goalkeeper Marissa Rosa was named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Defensive Player of the Week Monday after recording back-to-back shutouts as UMD racked up a pair of conference wins at Malosky Stadium Saturday and Sunday.

Making the first two home starts of her collegiate career, Rosa combined to make nine saves in 180 minutes of action. Rosa made four stops in Saturday’s 1-0 blanking of Southwest Minnesota State before coming up with five saves in Sunday’s 6-0 rout of Sioux Falls.

The Champlin, Minn., native is 2-1-0 in 2012 with an .870 save percentage and carries a sparkling goals against average of 0.90 on the season.

Rosa and the Bulldogs head on the road this weekend for conference games at Augustana College and Wayne State College.
